Sober social gatherings and outings

Fostering joy in sobriety

We organize regular dry social activities to demonstrate that a productive, happy, and fun life is entirely possible in sobriety.

One of the biggest concerns for individuals entering recovery is the fear that their social life is over. They worry that they will never have fun or fit in again without the use of drugs or alcohol.

At Camp David UK, we break this misconception by organizing regular group social outings and events. These include outdoor country hikes, bowling matches, sports events, clean comedy shows, sober mic nights, and holiday gatherings (like our annual Christmas dinners). These activities encourage residents to build genuine, alcohol-free bonds and learn to navigate social spaces comfortably and joyfully.

Types of sober events

  • Outdoor Expeditions: Hill walking, park hikes, and seaside trips promoting physical health and natural stress release.
  • Sober Mic Nights: Creative expression events utilizing music, poetry, and stories in a safe space (e.g., Ipswich Sober MIC).
  • Seasonal Festivities: Shared Christmas dinners and opening ceremony celebrations fostering family-style community.
  • Friendly Sports Leagues: Football matches and fitness workouts promoting physical discipline and teamwork.

Who is this for?

This service is open to all current residential clients, aftercare programme members, support workers, families, and sober allies in the UK community.
